The Rowan School, part of the Melrose Education group of schools, is proud to announce that it has officially been awarded Asthma Friendly School status by the Black Country Children and Young People’s Asthma Team, recognising the school’s commitment to supporting learners with asthma and promoting their health, wellbeing and safety within the school environment.
The accreditation highlights the school’s dedication to ensuring that learners with asthma feel safe, supported and able to fully participate in school life. To achieve the award, the school demonstrated that it has effective asthma policies and procedures in place, that staff have a strong understanding of asthma management, and that learners are able to access their reliever inhalers whenever needed. The award also recognises the confidence and capability of staff in supporting learners during an asthma attack.
The Asthma Friendly School programme aims to improve outcomes for children and young people living with asthma by ensuring schools are equipped with the knowledge, training and systems needed to provide consistent and effective support.
Snita Verma, Principal at The Rowan School, said:
“We are incredibly proud to have achieved Asthma Friendly School status. The health, safety and wellbeing of our learners is always a priority, and this recognition reflects the hard work and commitment of our staff team in creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for every child. We know how important it is for learners with asthma to feel confident and supported in school, and we are delighted that our practices have been recognised in this way.”
Melrose Education Founder, CEO and Executive Chair, Tracey Storey, added:
“This award is a fantastic achievement for The Rowan School and reflects the culture of care, compassion and high standards that we strive for across all Melrose Education schools. Ensuring that learners feel safe, understood and supported is central to everything we do, and I would like to congratulate the entire Rowan team on this well-deserved recognition.”
