Elm Class Enjoys Healthy Junior Duke Cookery Challenge

Learners in Elm Class at The Rowan School combined practical life skills with healthy eating by completing a cookery challenge as part of their Junior Duke Programme.

With the warm weather providing the perfect opportunity for a calming indoor activity, learners prepared their own refreshing fruit salads using a wide variety of fresh fruit. As they worked, they practised important knife skills, carefully cutting and sharing the ingredients before creating their own healthy snacks.

The hands-on activity helped learners develop confidence in the kitchen while strengthening their independence, fine motor skills and understanding of healthy food choices. Working together also encouraged communication, cooperation and sharing, making the experience both enjoyable and rewarding.

After all their hard work, the class enjoyed their delicious fruit salads as a refreshing and nutritious snack, helping everyone stay cool during the heatwave.

School Principal, Snita Verma, said:

“The Junior Duke Programme provides wonderful opportunities for our learners to develop practical life skills in fun and meaningful ways. Preparing healthy food not only builds confidence and independence but also encourages teamwork, communication and positive wellbeing. Elm Class approached this challenge with enthusiasm and care, and it was fantastic to see them enjoying the fruits of their hard work together.”

The Rowan School’s Junior Duke Programme continues to give learners valuable opportunities to develop everyday skills while building resilience, independence and confidence through engaging, hands-on experiences.
