Rowan School Learners Lead the Way in Reducing Waste and Promoting Sustainability

Learners at Rowan School, part of Melrose Education, have been taking an active role in promoting sustainability as part of the school’s Topic Week. Focusing on Saving Waste & Sustainability, learners explored practical ways to reduce food waste, cut down on unnecessary energy use, and make more environmentally conscious choices both at school and at home.

Throughout the week, learners investigated how small, everyday actions, such as switching off lights, reducing single-use plastics, and making thoughtful food choices, can contribute to significant positive change. They used their findings to design persuasive posters aimed at encouraging the whole school community to think more carefully about waste.

The posters, created by Elm Class, were so impactful that learners chose to display them around the school, helping to raise awareness among their peers and staff.

Snita Verma, Principal of Rowan School, praised the learners’ commitment to sustainability, saying:

“We are incredibly proud of our learners for taking ownership of such an important topic. Their posters show creativity, insight, and genuine care for the environment. It’s inspiring to see them lead the conversation on how we can all make small changes that have a big impact.”

Rowan School continues to embed practical, real-world learning experiences across the curriculum, nurturing confident learners who care about their community and the wider world.

Well done to Elm Class for their fantastic work and powerful message.
