Maple Class Becomes a Newsroom for a Day The Rowan School, Coseley

This week, Maple Class at The Rowan School transformed into a fully fledged newsroom as our learners took on the role of investigative reporters for the day. I had the pleasure of watching their creativity and curiosity unfold as they researched, produced, and presented news stories on some of the world’s most fascinating and urgent topics.

Each learner selected a global issue or innovation to explore. Their stories ranged from the serious, such as the accelerating problem of deforestation, to the wonderfully imaginative, including the rise of robot footballers and the use of drones to create art and spectacular light shows.

The atmosphere in Maple Class was electric. Learners shared their findings with confidence, exchanged questions with their peers, and reflected thoughtfully on how the news helps us understand our world. It was a joy to see how deeply they engaged with the activity and how proudly they presented to one another.

Our teaching team were hugely impressed by the effort and insight shown throughout the day. The newsroom project not only strengthened research, communication, and presentation skills but also encouraged learners to think critically about global issues and innovations shaping the future.

Principal Snita Verma praised the initiative, saying:

“At The Rowan School, we believe in creating learning experiences that spark curiosity and empower our learners to find their voice. Watching Maple Class step into the role of journalists was inspiring. They showed outstanding confidence, teamwork, and creativity. We are incredibly proud of them.”

Maple Class will return to their normal timetable next week, but their one-day newsroom has left a lasting impact, and more than a few headline-worthy memories.
