Oak Class Bring The Gunpowder Plot to Life Through Drama

Learners in Oak Class at The Rowan School stepped back in time this week as they acted out the famous story of The Gunpowder Plot. As part of their history learning on 5th November, the boys enthusiastically took on different roles and reenacted key scenes from the story.

Acting as Guy Fawkes, the plotters, King James, and the soldiers, they retold the sequence of events, from hiding the gunpowder to the dramatic moment the plotters were discovered and taken to jail. Their performance was full of energy, teamwork and excellent recall, showing just how well they had learned the story.

The class also connected their lesson to local history, discussing nearby Holbeache House, located just six miles from the school, where the plotters attempted to hide after the planned explosion failed. This helped the boys understand the real places and people behind the story, making their learning meaningful and memorable.

Snita Verma, Principal of The Rowan School, praised the class for their fantastic work:

“Oak Class approached this learning with enthusiasm and real curiosity. It was wonderful to see them bring an important moment in British history to life, especially while linking it to our local area. Their confidence, teamwork and understanding really shone through.”
